High Speed Ferry Explosion Injures 25 Wahana Gili Ocean 4

On Friday, June 5, 2015 around 1600 hours Wahana Gili Ocean's, Wahana Gili Ocean 4, a high speed fast ferry was sailing between the Indonesian islands of Lombok and Bali when the ship suddenly suffered an explosion in or near the engine and gas tank with 129 passengers aboard.

Wahana Gili Ocean 4, left the Gili Islands, stopped in Senggigi on Lombok Island and was en route to Bali when the explosion took place. Another explosion rocked the ferry moments later, 30 minutes after embarking.

The second explosion broke windows and hit passengers.

The three men and one woman were among 25 passengers who were injured when the engine or engine line is believed to have exploded on the Wahana Gili Ocean 4 about 4pm.

Reports say there was eleven passengers who received burns and eight suffered broken bones, the rest had minor injuries. Several Australians were treated at Mataram Public Hospital in Lombok and then discharged about 8pm on Friday night.

Wahana Gili Ocean 4 was assisted by sister ship Wahana Gili Ocean 3, which was in the area at the time of the explosion. Passengers were from Australia, France, Italy, US, UK and New Zealand. Passengers described the scene as a mess, with seats overturned and scattered everywhere.
